Motley Crue

by Carl Wiser

Mötley Crüe went out in glorious extravagance. Their last show took place on New Year's Eve, 2015 in what looked like a combination of Space Mountain and Backdraft. Nikki Sixx had a flamethrower attached to his bass; Vince Neil went up in a cherrypicker; Tommy Lee rode his drum kit into the audience on a roller coaster (in trüe Spinal Tap fashion, it didn't go as planned).

Driven by a fear of playing state fairs or nostalgia shows, they signed a legal document - a "cessation of touring agreement" - that prevents them from ever touring again.

The final show on the Final Tour is captured on the DVD Mötley Crüe: The End - Live In Los Angeles. In the bonus feature interviews, every band member agrees that they never should have made it this far considering their history of reckless debauchery. They took rock and roll excess to a new level, perfecting the art of hotel room trashing and finding new, more destructive forms of drug abuse.

A typical story goes like this: Nikki Sixx was declared clinically dead after suffering a heroin-induced heart attack. That one's true - it inspired "Kickstart My Heart." We came up with 10 more Crüe facts that may be fiction. See if you can spot the fakes.
