Songfacts®:

  • This song, written by Paige's producer Andy Goldmark along with the songwriters Mark Muller, Berny Cosgrove and Kevin Clark, was inspired by Paige's personal experiences and observations in her love life. There have been claims that It was written for Joey Fatone of 'N Sync, as she was dating him at the time. However Paige told Disney Chat that they were never in a relationship. The rumors started as they used to run into each other a lot during concerts and TV appearances. One day Paige was given a Superman ring and as Fatone collects Superman stuff he said it was her engagement ring.
  • The first time Jennifer heard "Crush" on the radio she was on the phone to her mother. She started screaming and her mother thought she was having a heart attack.
  • This was an international hit, topping among others the Australian, New Zealand, Spanish and United World charts.

  • James Lachman from Cincinnati OhWhen I was 6, in 1971, after a very painful earache I had a myringatomy performed on my ears (ear tubes). Immediately afterwards loud noises hurt my ears. To this day I do not like live music or loudly played music. However there is one exception. On a very rare occasion, far rarer than a blue moon, I have that universal yearning to listen to loud music... So loud that certain songs will make my hairs on my arms stand up. So I'll break out my computer and headphones and listen to about 20 or so songs that inexplicably transcend me to pure auditory pleasure (albeit temporarily) akin to a trance. One of the four songs that I must listen to, due to this rare magical conjunction of soul and music, are Led Zepplin's "Kashmir," Jamelia's "Superstar," RD Burman's "Mehbooba Mehbooba," and finally Jennifer Paige's "Crush." Why? I have no idea why these songs are like drugs to me but they are... Thank you Jennifer Paige. I love your song and hopefully in the future it will remain prescription free and unregulated by the government.
