Songfacts®:

  • Beck has made many strange combinations of different styles of music, and this is perhaps his strangest. "Sexx Laws" features a combination of Bluegrass banjo and a funk horn section.
  • This song, as the title might imply, is about sex. Beck uses a lot of clever imagery for different aspects of sex, such as wearing hepatitis contact lens, for wearing a condom.
  • The chorus of "I want to defy the logic of our sexx laws," simply means to go against what you have been taught.
  • In the title, "Sexx" is spelt with two X's instead of the traditional one X. One theory on this is because two X's imply it is very filthy (as in x-rating). Another is that XX means two X-chromosomes, thus saying nothing is wrong with same-sex relationships, which would go along with "defying the logic of our sexx laws."
  • The music video of this song is very strange. It features many inanimate objects dry-humping each other, such as refrigerators and canned food. The actor Jack Black is also seen throughout the video.
  • This song was used on an episode of the cartoon Futurama, in which Beck appeared. The beginning can be heard in a scene where Beck is performing live, and it fast-forwards to the end where Beck says, "That song doesn't usually last three hours, but we got into a serious 'thing'.. then I forgot how the song ended." >>

  • Chico from GlasgowGreat Tune.
  • Eric from Boston, MaThe style of this song would not at all have been out of place on a Bowie album from the mid 70s.
  • Karl from Ingatestone, United KingdomOne of Beck's greatest songs from Midnite Vultures and probably one of his best yet.
  • Cornflakes from Bfe, TnOne of the best songs from 'Midnite Vultures.' I can't believe this is the first comment on this clearly underrated song.
