Songfacts®:

  • The traumatic events surrounding the illness then death of guitarist Mark Sheehan's mother were an influence on the album. For instance Sheehan told The Sun newspaper August 1, 2008 that, "she told me that every end is a beginning of something too, so the song The End Where I Begin was born."
  • This song was prominently placed on the multi-platform video game FIFA '09.
  • The Script was recorded during a difficult time in both Sheehan and vocalist Danny O'Donoghue's lives. Sheehan explained to Gibson.com: "Both Danny and I lost parents during the writing and producing of our record. We decided to take the production job on ourselves, too, so when we lost two people so close to us it was devastating. 'The End Where I Begin' really speaks about that moment. Both my Mam and Danny's father saw our struggle and supported it so much. 'The end of something is also a beginning of something new' is what my Mam drilled into my head before her passing, so we seem to relive that emotion every single time we play it. Yes, it's very tough but relevant."
