  • "I was sitting with a couple of buddies talking about some things that we've all done in our lives that we wish we probably could have done together," Jake Owen told us. "We've spent so much time, everybody's spent so much time blaming things on other people, or on other things that have happened in their lives. So we just kind of put all the things together that we've done. I've had instances in my life I really regret. And the only way you can get past that and be a better person in life is by looking at yourself in the mirror and starting with yourself."
  • This song is autobiographical, explains Jake, noting a couple of the lines in particular: "I got in a little altercation with my dad one Christmas that I'll never forget about. I was not there when my grandmother passed away."
And he's had many instances of fans approaching him to say they've had the same sorts of experiences and regrets. His feeling on that is, "It sounds trite, but it's what makes it completely worthwhile, to have somebody walk up to you and tell you how much a song means to them, or where they were in their life when that song hit them, and how much they've grown. It awesome." (Check out our interview with Jake Owen)
