I'm The Man Who Found The Straight Banana

Album: Bananas (1927)

Songfacts®:

  • This is both an obvious novelty song and an answer song to the Lawrence Wright published "I've Never Seen A Straight Banana."

Described as a chorus song, it has words by Harry Arthur, music by Waff Walker, and was published by H&R Miller of London in 1927 at sixpence, the same price as the original. It was No 61 in the Miller Series of Popular Publications.

Though a fair effort it contains an all too common (and at times infuriating) grammatical error in the line "But I'll try and solve the problem of this little mystery" instead of "But I'll try to find the problem of this little mystery." This same error appears in many other songs including John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High," the Flanders & Swann comic number "The Gasman Cometh," and most notably in the Matt Monroe rendition "Portrait Of My Love." >>
