Songfacts®:

  • The brothers explained to the Australian radio show The Hot Hits: "This song was written after personal experiences that made us grow in the ways of love and relationships."
  • On this break-up song Nick Jonas duets with his former girlfriend, Miley Cyrus. Nick told MTV News that this is one of his favorite songs on Lines, Vines and Trying Times. He explained: "I think it's probably one of my favorite songs because it has a great story to it. It's a duet with Miley, which is great."
  • The song was originally intended for the Jonases' previous album, but didn't make the cut. Also it didn't originally include Miley until Nick saw it as an opportunity for the two of them to share their tale of young love with their fans.
  • Miley's 2008 hit single "7 Things" also addresses their break-up.
  • A live version of this ballad is also featured on Miley Cyrus' 2009 EP Time of our Lives.
  • Nick Jonas told Twist Magazine about this song: "There's two versions of the song basically, one that was written just for our record that we sang originally. And then I played it for Miley and we realized that if we just changed the lyrics a bit, we could make it more of our story, kind of share that side of us, and it could be great. So, we did. She came in and she and I sat down at the piano and just worked on lyrics a bit, tweaked it up, and it turned out great!"
