Songfacts®:

  • With their 2009 album Release, all members of Sister Hazel contributed to the songwriting, rather than rely solely on their lead singer Ken Block. This track was written by their guitarist Ryan Newell with contributions from Mike Daly (formerly of Whiskeytown) and Pat McGee. The song shares a theme with a few others on the album. Newell told Songfacts: "'Take a Bow' was written about my divorce. A truly difficult time for anyone to go through. 'Release' is a divorce song. 'Fade'... well uhhmm... another divorce song. You can tell what phase of life I was going through! Ha! Much better now, thanks to the music therapy."

Ken Block added: "I really like the pointed honesty on 'Take a Bow.' The lyrics hit Ryan's difficult divorce head on with some painful truths about a wayward partner."
  • Sister Hazel came to prominence in 1997 with their first single, "All For You," which was their biggest hit. They later signed to the Indie label Rock Ridge Music, which released Release, earning the highest chart position of any Sister Hazel album when it peaked at #37. The band has a loyal following and tours constantly, logging over 3,500 shows by 2009. The same five members have been with the group since they formed in 1993.
