Red Wine by Woody Guthrie

Album: Ballads Of Sacco & VanzettiReleased: 1945
  • This is not a song about wine although it is quite possible Guthrie was drunk when he wrote it, because his take on the arrest of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti has little in common with what actually happened. This is yet another inferior song from his distinctly inferior work Ballads Of Sacco & Vanzetti; genuine wine lovers may prefer Neil Diamond's double red version; Guthrie fans will undoubtedly prefer his dust bowl ballads, songs written from the heart, and with a timeless message.
