The Chanukah Song

by

Neil Diamond

Songfacts®:  You can leave comments about the song at the bottom of the page.

This is a cover of a humorous song by actor-comedian Adam Sandler, in which he lists famous Jews. Diamond's version features lyrical alterations including the change from "Tom Cruise isn't but I think his agent is" to "Tom Cruise isn't, but Jesus Christ is."
New Guns 'N' Roses guitarist DJ Ashba produced and performs on the track.
Despite not being a Christmas song, Diamond included it on his Yuletide album, A Cherry Cherry Christmas as a reflection of his own Jewish faith. He explained to The Daily Telegraph December 4, 2009: "I thought I'd throw one in there for my people, too, because we always feel a little left out around this time of year. Christmas music is amazingly evocative to people of all religions and cultures."
The song's animated video, which celebrates the festival of lights, was created and produced by Tektoniq/Vision Films.

"How much does it cost? I'll buy it?" Another songwriter told Jonathan to change these lyrics. Good thing he ignored this advice.
