Nambu Ushi Oi Uta by Traditional

Album: Koto of JapanReleased: 1800
  • According to the 1972 book Folk Songs Of Japan, "Nambu Ushi Oi Uta" is a cow herders song from the Nambu District of Iwate Prefecture. Also known as "Nambu Ushikata Bushi", "The melody, one of the most plaintive and beautiful in the large folk song repertoire of Japan, was sung by the herders as they guided their beasts along the mountain roads." It is rendered herein in 2/4 time, though it has some triple notes. >>
