Songfacts®:

  • This is a track from Canadian alternative rock band Hot Hot Heat's fourth studio album, Future Breeds. Frontman Steve Bays told Spin Magazine: "It's the first positive love song I've ever written. I wrote it shortly before getting engaged - and it's the only song on the album written from my own perspective."
  • This is the second recording of "Goddess." The band originally laid down a different-sounding take earlier in the album sessions, before scrapping it. "The original version of this song had more of a minimalist '60s dance-y feel to it, but we felt it didn't feel 'Hot Hot Heat' enough, so we re-recorded it live off the floor," Bays explained to Spin. "We liked the second version more 'cause it felt like, energy-wise, it was the missing piece to Future Breeds puzzle."
