Hey Little Cobra by The Rip Chords

Album: Hey Little CobraReleased: 1964Charted:

  • Contrary to popular belief, The Rip Chords did sing on this song. Producers Terry Melcher and Bruce Johnston sang the lead vocal and backup parts respectively, but Phil Stewart, Rich Rotkin, Arnie Marcus, and Ernie Bringas did contribute to the back-up vocal parts. Marcus also played Bongo parts on many Rip Chords recordings. >>

  • Melcher was the son of actress Doris Day; he went on to produce albums for The Byrds and Paul Revere And The Raiders. Johnston became a member of The Beach Boys. They persuaded Columbia Records to release this as by The Rip Chords to take advantage of the act's name recognition. >>

referencing Dr Roberts comment:

Phil Spector wrote and produced (and sang in?) the Teddy Bear's "To Know Him Is To Love Him" - apparently a song written to honor Spector's departed father.
