Anchor

This is the lead track from Street Songs of Love, an album by Texas-based singer-songwriter Alejandro Escovedo. The song is a statement of purpose about that treacherous thing called "love." Escovedo discussed the tune with Express Night Out: "'Anchor' was the first song I wrote for the record. I wrote it when I was in Baja, California. I went down there for a month to go surfing and write songs. I wasn't sure about the song. I really kind of had doubts about it - I wasn't convinced it was even worth pursuing. I called up David [Pulkingham], who plays guitar with me, and he gave me some encouragement and said he thought I should pursue it. So I did. It's funny, because as soon as we played that song live, people were trying to sing along with it. It's got that chorus, that real catchy, "I'm in love with love." I've been told by a dear friend of mine who I respect very much that was probably the most honest line I've ever written in a song. So it turns out that it's the leadoff track on the album. It's a really strong song in concert now, and I think it's the single if there is one on the record."

For Street Songs of Love, Escovedo teamed up with previous collaborator, producer Tony Visconti (T. Rex, David Bowie, U2, Morrissey), and chief songwriting partner Chuck Prophet. After starting out writing about nothing in particular, "it ended up being an album about love, the pursuit of a feeling that is forever elusive, mysterious, and addictive," said Escovedo.
