This track was written by the band's drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan three days before he was found dead on December 28, 2009, making it the last song ever to be written by The Rev. It was originally titled "Death."
The song features the deceased drummer singing as it was decided The Rev's demo vocals should be kept on the track as a tribute to him.
This is also the only Avenged Sevenfold song to have no guitar.
Former Dream Theater percussionist Mike Portnoy
, who filled in for 'The Rev' after his death, discussed this track with Modern Drummer
: "This track is one-thousand-percent Jimmy. I don't know if I would have played the drum parts that way - I would have done less. It's such a strange heartfelt song for those guys. The original demo had Jimmy playing piano and drums and singing. When I tracked the song, I played along to his demo. The band played all the other tracks with me, but this was just me and the Rev playing a duet."
