Crew Slut

Album: Joe's Garage (1979)

Songfacts®:

  • Running to 6 minutes 31 seconds, this song continues from "Catholic Girls", and like "Watermelon In Easter Hay" and several other tracks, it is introduced by the The Central Scrutinizer, the narrator of the sad tale of Joe, and in some ways the even sadder tale of his one-time girlfriend Mary. The line "Of course I'll introduce you to Warren" refers to Warren Cuccurullo, who played on this triple concept album. As his name is also mentioned on "Catholic Girls" this is probably an in-joke. It remains to be seen what Zappa intended this track to show, the debasement of women, the vacuousness of casual sex, or maybe something entirely different. >>

  • The term "Crew Slut" is a disparaging term for a groupie who services the roadies and other members of a band's touring entourage. When Motley Crue rose to fame, they of course started referring to their female fans as "Crue Sluts."
