  • This is a track from Ellie Goulding's re-release of her debut studio album Lights titled Bright Lights. The album re-release contains six brand-new tracks.
  • The song was written by Goulding and electronic remixer, composer and musician Starsmith after the songs for the original album were recorded. Goulding told Digital Spy: "Songs like 'Human' and 'Animal' came about because me and Starsmith, my producer, got back together for a couple of days and had a burst of creativity because we hadn't seen each other in ages."
  • The song was influenced by Brandon Flowers' debut solo album, Flamingo. Goulding told Digital Spy that it is, "more Killers-esque because I went through a phase of loving the new Brandon Flowers album."
