Skinny Love by Birdy

Album: BirdyReleased: 2011Charted:
  • Birdy is British singer-songwriter Jasmine Van den Bogaerde, who was fourteen when she recorded this song. After she won the under 18s category of the UK talent contest UK Idol at the age of 12, Jasmine was quickly offered a publishing contract by Good Soldier Songs Ltd, run by Christian Tattersfield, chairman of Warner Bros. Music UK. This is her debut single, a cover version of a track first recorded by American folk band Bon Iver and included on their 2008 album For Emma, Forever Ago.
  • A piece of trivia for you movie buffs - Birdy's great uncle was the actor Sir Dirk Bogarde.
  • The song returned to the UK singles chart in January 2012 after soundtracking Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter on ITV1's Dancing on Ice.
  • This is the first Birdy video directed by Sophie Muller, who would go on to direct the singer's "Wings" and "Words as Weapons." The clip follows Birdy through a crumbling mansion. Two other videos were also made. The first is a simple black-and-white take of her singing to the camera; the second shows her performing in a decrepit room that's covered in graffiti.

I do prefer her breath-taking version to the original. Her vocal strength is amazing! I love it! :3Helena - Bucks, United Kingdom
Birdy's version of Skinny Love is just phenomenal and (dare I say it), I prefer it to the original. I first heard it on The Vampire Diaries. I've since become a big fan of her music.Leigh - Cape Town, South Africa
Fantastic to see Birdy doing so well after performing at the O2 and winning her category in the biggest music competition in the UK for singers!
