Birdy is British singer-songwriter Jasmine Van den Bogaerde, who was fourteen when she recorded this song. After she won the under 18s category of the UK talent contest UK Idol
at the age of 12, Jasmine was quickly offered a publishing contract by Good Soldier Songs Ltd, run by Christian Tattersfield, chairman of Warner Bros. Music UK. This is her debut single, a cover version of a track first recorded by American folk band Bon Iver
and included on their 2008 album For Emma, Forever Ago
A piece of trivia for you movie buffs - Birdy's great uncle was the actor Sir Dirk Bogarde.
The song returned to the UK singles chart in January 2012 after soundtracking Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter on ITV1's Dancing on Ice.
