Songfacts®:

  • This melancholy tune is a track from Lady A's third studio album Own The Night. The trio wrote it along with four of their road band members: Matt Billingslea, Dennis Edwards, Jonathan Long and Jason "Slim" Gambill. It was released to iTunes as a preview track prior to the release of the album.
  • The idea for the song started during a soundcheck out on the road. Lady A's Charles Kelley explained: "We wrote that with honestly all the guys that are out there in our band on the road. So it's a seven [member] co-write. There was something really strong about that lyric, 'Wanted You More.' We were in the studio, and this is kind of how these little great little melody things come out and different kind of hooks come out while you're in there working on these songs," he added. "Slim, our guitar player, started playing that little guitar riff that opens up the song. And we knew that we wanted that to be a signature of the song. So production wise, that's probably the song I'm most proud of on the record. Paul [Worley, producer] and all the players did a really great job on that one."
  • Charles Kelley told The Boot: "It's funny, after listening to the song more and more, it felt like it's almost the next stage of 'Need You Now.' It's like you're past that... I guess you wanted me more than I wanted you. I don't need this anymore. It's cool to be continuing that story a little bit."
