Songfacts®:  You can leave comments about the song at the bottom of the page.

Peter Allen co-wrote this with Carole Bayer Sager, who he collaborated with for about ten years. The song first appeared on his 1974 album Continental American. Other Allen-Bayer Sager collaborations include "Don't Cry Out Loud," "Quiet Please, There's a Lady on Stage" and "I'd Rather Leave While I'm in Love."
Allen performed the song with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in 1981 where he became the first male performer to dance with the famous kick line.
A showstopping song, this was used in the bio-musical The Boy From Oz, which starred Hugh Jackman on Broadway in 2003. The original Aussie cast starred Todd McKenney in 1998.
A live version of the song appears in the film All That Jazz where two women dance and lip-sync to the song's lyrics. (thanks, Sara - Silver Spring, MD, for all above)
