Songfacts®:

  • Originally leaked on June 21, 2011 with a contribution from Nicki Minaj, the final version on My Life II features Nas. The song finds the pair reminiscing over a past relationship.
  • Andrea Martin (Melanie Fiona, Leona Lewis) wrote the song, which samples Wu-Tang Clan's 1997 single "Triumph."
  • Nas and Blige have worked together several times. He appeared on her 1997 single "Love is All We Need," and she joined him for "Reach Out" from his 2012 album, Life Is Good. Both of them also starred in the 2013 film Black Nativity, with Nas playing Prophet Isaiah.

"Nas is the prophet," Blige, who played an angel, explained to The Source. "He's always been the person with the message. He's just always been a great person. He's very into what he is doing. He has a lot of integrity and his life shows that."
