This is about a family where the father has a drinking problem. When he drinks he loses his temper and becomes violent. The song is written from the point of view of a kid in this family, who fears that his father will one day kill his mother ("I'm terrified that she'll wind up dead in his hands"). The mother can't tell the truth about what the father does ("Just tell the nurse, you slipped and fell").In the last part of the song, the father is drunk again and is looking for a fight, but this time the mother has had enough, and she grabs a gun and kills him. Now that the father will never hurt the family again, we get the meaning of the title, "Never Again." (thanks, Anders - Skagen, Denmark)

I think this is the weaker version of Flat On the Floor. I know they don't have the same meaning, and this one means a lot more, but it's beat is much too calm. If this was me and this was my father I'd be screaming.

I think this song has a very powerful meaning to it and i can relate to this song. I haven't heard to many songs like this. Well done Nickelback. Your AWESOME

this song makes me so sad... abuse is one of the most heartbreaking things that can happen to someone, even if you're just seeing it rather than being abused yourself. another song about abuse that makes me sad whenever I hear it is "hell is for children" by Pat Benatar.
- Marissa, Is this optional?, OH
Actually, Kittie, that is incorrect. "Too Bad" is about his childhood and his father - when his father heard the song, he asked Chad Kroeger what it meant and what it was about. He told him it had nothing to do with him, but was loosely based on his friend's childhood.

The song is loosely based on Chad Kroeger's childhood. His father was an alcoholic that used to beat his mother.

i think that this song is one of nickelback's best songs, as it is dealing with serious issues whilst making a brilliant rock song in the procees. this song inspired me to start writing a novel on a little girl who goes through the things that happen in the song, and goes on to show what happens later on in her life, and how she deals with the issues and how her life is affected by the events of her childhood, and my novel is based on this song. i feel that this song is really good and seems strong and is just a good rock song. well done nickleback!
