Songfacts®:

  • The lyrics were inspired by women the band met in southern Canada. However, guitarist and principal songwriter Rick Nielsen didn't like the sound of "Southern Canadian Girls" in the hook, so he just left it as "Southern Girls."
  • Cheap Trick bass player Tom Petersson is credited as a writer on this song along with Nielsen.
