Songfacts®:

  • The fourth single from Mary J. Blige's tenth studio album, My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act 1), finds Mary professing her love and loyalty for her man. "They were right, love is blind. I can't see nothing but you," she croons. "And that's why I don't mind saying I love you." The single was released on June 19, 2012 through Matriarch Records.
  • Mary penned the song with American songwriter Priscella Renea, whose other credits include Selena Gomez & The Scene's, "Who Says" and Rihanna's "Watch 'n' Learn."
  • Haitian-born Jerry Wonda manned the boards. Wonda is the cousin of Wyclef Jean and his first major success was as producer for Fugees' 1996 album The Score. Amongst the hit singles on Wonda's resume are Santana's "Maria Maria" and Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie."
  • An alternate version featured in Blige's ad for Burger King - "The Crispy Chicken Song," over which the songstress sings the praises of the Crispy Chicken Snack Wrap. The commercial drew a backlash from fans, who complained that the content promoted a negative stereotype. Blige responded by claiming the final version that was shown on TV was not what she signed up for. The fast food restaurant chain later pulled the ad.
