Songfacts®:

  • Born in Hollywood in 1957 and a lifelong Southern California resident, Johnette Napolitano has always had a love/hate relationship with the City of Angels. The Concrete Blonde vocalist told Steven P. Wheeler in an interview for Happening, October 1993: "I like it for the same reasons that everybody else comes here for; the weather, the space, and I also like the fact that Mexico is so close because I like that influence a lot. But the crime does get to me. I'm getting tired of being on the defensive 24 hours a day, but this is my home."
  • Napolitano subsequently moved out into the Southern California desert. She told us that she still considers LA to be a great place to visit, but she wouldn't want to live there anymore. "It's my hometown, you know," she said. "I mean, my dad put the sign up on the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. So it's my hometown. But it's just too crowded. It's as simple as that. I'm just too nervous for the city." (check out our interview with Johnette Napolitano for more).
  • This was one of three songs from Concrete Blonde's eponymous debut album to feature prominently in the 1987 science fiction film The Hidden.
