Songfacts®:

  • One of the darkest songs on J. Cole's sophomore album, the song finds the Carolina rapper addressing temptation as he paints a gloomy picture of all the trouble that follows a Born Sinner.
  • Cole's A&R representative and confrere Ibrahim "IB" Hamad told Vibe magazine about the creation of this cut: "He did this song on the studio bus during the Club Paradise tour. When we got back around to finally finishing the song up, the sample wouldn't clear at all. We had to get a Choir instead of the sample which actually made the song sound even better and gave it new life. Certain songs lose its feeling when you try to change or replay the sample. This one got better."
