Once Aboard The Lugger by Leslie Sarony

Album: not on an albumReleased: 1932
  • Written and recorded by Leslie Sarony, the sheet music for this novelty song was published by none other than Lawrence Wright, who was perhaps better known as songwriter Horatio Nicholls.

Recorded on the Eclipse label in January 1932, it contains both sound effects and snatches of other nautical songs, including "The Bay Of Biscay."
  • In this pun-laden epic, our hero pursues the girl with passion until finally she gives in, although nowadays he'd probably be arrested for harassment.

The concertina gives this ditty a real maritime effect, though admittedly more Captain Pugwash than Sinbad The Sailor. >>
