Album: Pajama Game soundtrack (1954)

Songfacts®:

  • "Steam Heat" is a dance number from the 1954 musical comedy The Pajama Game. Like the rest of the numbers in the show it has music by Richard Adler and lyrics by Jerry Ross, the latter of whom did not live to see the film version three years later.

Adler is said to have composed the music for this and three other songs within two days. Although the song is unexceptional, its performance by two guys and a girl in the 1957 film version might just have inspired an internationally acclaimed dancer who was not born until the following year: The dress of these characters - down to the white socks - and their moves is strikingly similar to Michael Jackson at the height of his powers. >>
