Songfacts®:

  • This poignant and soaring anthem was written by American indie singer Nell Bryden and inspired by her hometown New York, and her personal experience in the devastating aftermath of 9/11. Having avoided writing about the events for ten years, Bryden began describing her experience to Patrick Mascall at Metrophonic Studios as the 10th anniversary of 9/11 approached, and by the end of the day she had completed the song. It was included on the singer-songwriter's 2012 Shake The Tree album.
  • Cher described her big ballad cover as "Cher does U2."
