Songfacts®:

  • This was one of the first tunes that the A Great Big World pair wrote together; it was originally an Ian Axel solo song. They recalled to The Huffington Post: "We just kinda forgot about it. It was put on the back burner. It wasn't until we were choosing songs for the A Great Big World album that we stumbled upon a demo of it and it just hit us differently than it ever had."
  • A Great Big World explained the song's meaning: "We were on the road a ton and were dealing with being away from home and loved ones," they said. "The idea is that we are always 'home.' Love transcends any distance."
  • The song's split-screen music video was filmed in Los Angeles and New York. It features Darren Criss (Glee) and Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl) portraying a couple who are trying to make their long-distance relationship work.

Criss came to the project after Glee covered A Great Big World's "This Is The New Year" in January 2013. "We kind of just trusted him -- we definitely thought that he'd be able to bring something interesting to the role, and we loved Jessica's work as well, so it all came together really fast," the visual's director Isaac Rentz told The Hollywood Reporter. "In fact, we cast them like two days before we actually shot the video, which was really quick and kind of a testament to how awesome Darren and Jessica are."
