Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Rumer's Into Colour album takes the singer in a disco direction. Lyrically it addresses her initial reluctance to return to music after the release of her covers album Boys Don't Cry in 2012. "I had so much resistance to going back into writing and performing publicly again that I realised I wasn't going to be able to break through it until I literally wrote a song about the resistance itself," Rumer said. "We worked it into a love song, and the emotion just felt naturally disco in theme."
  • Rumer told The Independent this song "is about overcoming fears of being hurt."
  • Rumer wrote the song with Rob Shirakbari, an Arkansas composer/arranger/musician whom she met when she relocated to Los Angeles after the release of Boys Don't Cry.
  • In the Anthony Byrne-directed music video, Rumer portrays a dancer-turned-studio manager of a ballet company who pines for one of its top male stars. Her fear of admitting her feelings is only matched by her fear of dancing, a career that was cut short by a debilitating injury. Will confronting her demons set her free, or is it too "dangerous"?

Byrne is known for his work as a director of UK TV series like Upstairs Downstairs, Mr Selfridge and Ripper Street.
