Songfacts®:

  • This 15-second song tells of a rough night out in Soft Play's hometown of Royal Tunbridge Wells. When they played it live, they would introduce it with a an explanation that lasted a lot longer than the song itself.
  • The track disappeared from the band's setlists for fear it would mark them out as jokers. "I feel like we're a small percentage a comedy band – like, we're not a joke, but at the same time, it is a joke?" guitarist Laurie Vincent told NME. "I think you've got to have both sides."
  • "Girl Fight" was included on the group's first EP, Sugar Coated Bitter Truth, released on their own label, Girl Fight Records, in 2012 when they were using the name Slaves. They released their first album, Are You Satisfied?, on the independent label Fonthill Records in 2014, then got a deal with the major label Virgin EMI. After 10 years as Slaves, they changed their name to Soft Play in 2022.
