Songfacts®:

  • This was released as the B-side to "Stay In My Corner," the first single released by The Arcs. Both songs reflect the band's mainman Dan Auerbach's love of boxing. He explained to UK newspaper The Sun: "I box and I'm a fan of boxing and I had a couple of songs that were loosely about boxing."

"One was just a phrase, Stay in My Corner, and is actually a love song. The other, Tomato Can, is a phrase about boxers who are certain to lose. When you hit them they bleed like a tomato can."

"So when the big fight, Mayweather versus Pacquiao, was coming up, I was like, 'Fellas! We have two songs about boxing and we have the fight of the century. Can we put out a seven-inch on that day?'"
