Songfacts®:

  • A solo track from Asleep at the Wheel leader Ray Benson, this song is about the Oklahoma singer-songwriter JJ Cale, who died in 2013 at age 74. "I was a good friend of Cale's," Benson said in his Songfacts interview. "I didn't get to see him much but we were friends for sure - I had called him up to play on the record a month before he died. When he died, I just sat down and wrote that song because I thought so much of the guy."
  • On this track, Benson used a wah-wah pedal on his guitar for the first time. This was done to evoke the sound of Cale's song "Crazy Mama."
