Songfacts®:

  • This modern take on classic soul features production from Nile Rodgers of Chic. Laura Mvula and Rodgers became friends as a result of a mutual admiration of each other's work. He tweeted to her, "I want to be in your universe where angels live. I worship you! We must work together", to which she replied, "Let's make it happen soon please". Mvula then sent Rodgers the original draft of "Overcome" after he asked to hear "the biggest track on the album."
  • The song features orchestration from the London Symphony Orchestra.
