Shayaa Joseph is a hip-hop artist from Atlanta, Georgia who records under the name of 21 Savage. This was released as the lead single from his collaborative EP with producer Metro Boomin, Savage Mode.
The song finds Savage blasting a lover warning her that her behaviour is in danger of turning her into an ex. He explained to Genius
"You talk too f---ing much. You don't know when to shut up. You want fame. Acting like a gold digger. You just dingy. I hate dingy ass hoes. You don't know how to be loyal. You ain't doing s--t with yourself.
I was just talking s--t, man. It wasn't really no specific bitch. It was all these hoes, really. Other people's relationships and s--t. Like, other hoes who I see you going with famous niggas. It was just a whole bunch of hoes."
Savage's fellow Atlanta rapper Future joins him on the song. He explained:
"We was just in the studio for a minute before he even did the verse. I was just going to the studio, pulling up on him. I asked him to do it. He was like 'Hell yeah. I got you.' Then he sent it.
The way he did it was like, he did the whole song. Like, how I did the intro? He did an intro doing the same s--t I was doing really, but in his own words. He did an intro. A verse. A hook. And then another verse. Another hook. When Metro played it for me, I was like, 'We should just chop it up, so that we going back & forth.' We just took this s--t that matched and put it where my s--t was and chopped it up."
