Songfacts®:

  • All-AmeriKKKan Bada$$ is a themed album in which Joey Bada$$ attempts to educate his young fans about USA's haunting history, in particular in regards to the African-American experience. However after coming up with the subject, the rapper wondered how he could fit music aimed at women around such a high concept record. His solution was this song, in which Bada$$ compares his relationship with America to a romance gone bad. He explained to HighSnobiety:

"It's interesting 'cause I already knew the concept I was going for with All-AmeriKKKan Bada$$. I knew I wanted to make a conceptual album. I was like, 'OK, one thing I want to get better at is incorporating songs for women in my body of work.' I always have these conceptual bodies of work and it's not really a spot to put a good song for a girl. That's pretty much what inspired the song. I said, 'Alright, how the hell am I going to incorporate a song about women within this concept?' I figured way that it would work is to talk about my domestic relationship with this country as if I'm literally in a relationship with this country. That's why I refer to it [the US] as a girl that I'm with. That's how it pretty much came about. I was like, 'Yo, this is genius.'"
