Songfacts®:

  • This synth-heavy track was released as the fourth single from Everything Now on July 13, 2017. In an email to fans announcing the song's release, the band described it as "either a gorgeous celebration of longing or a swirling aural hangover cure. If you, the journalist, need something specific to say about it, try something like, 'It's the sound of Arcade Fire at the dawn of something new, gorgeously unsure if they're ready for morning to come.'"
  • The music video features the band's Régine Chassagne walking through the streets of New Orleans at night while her bandmates portray street cleaners.
  • The song started out as something frontman Win Butler was working on, which fell by the wayside. However, his brother, multi-instrumentalist Will Butler, remained a fan of the tune. Will told The Sun:

"I kept pushing us to keep working at it. Regine taking over the vocals gave it new life. Sonically, that song is super-unique for us - quite stripped-back and not buried in big rabbit holes of orchestration. I was adamant it would be on the record and not fall on to the big pile of corpses that didn't make it."

He added regarding the slinky slice of disco soul: "That song had a lot to do with David Bowie and Prince dying, looking at their legacies and the music they loved and created. The losses of both were important events in our lives."

Will Butler concluded: "We've always loved that music but have never been technically competent to play it. We couldn't play a song like Electric Blue ten years ago but we've become better musicians."
