Songfacts®:

  • Not to be confused with any later song like the 2016 Prophets Of Rage track, "The Party's Over" has long been a standard. With music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, it was introduced by Judy Holliday in the 1956 Broadway musical Bells Are Ringing. As might be suspected, it has often been used to end the show, including the final show. On June 7, 1990, the Bromley & Beckenham Times reported that it has been played at the funeral of Sir Freddie Warren. The paper quoted his daughter Sally Steibelt who said it summed up her father. >>
