I think when attempting to explain the meaning of a song a person should say that it is their own interpretation, otherwise you're basically saying it is a fact that the song means what you say it does. The following is a direct quote from Ben Burnley himself “I want the listener to analyze my songs,” he says. “I don’t want to do it myself. If someone thinks the song is about something and I come along and say, ‘No. The song is about this.’ I could ruin it for them.” I think this song, like many of their others, has multiple meanings therefore multiple interpretations. It is an obvious metaphor and there is really only one phrase that even comes close to having to do with a relationship. To me personally "we are never sad because we are not allowed to be" is a representation of how society feels about our true feelings being being expressed. They don't want to hear about it. They do however want to hear about how great things are for you. If you are sad or depressed it makes others uncomfortable and most of the time they don't have a clue how to react to your personal misery. That's obvious on Facebook. I am not one to hide how I feel and I post things all the time about feeling sad or lonely and receive no comments. On a good day, I post a comment about how wonderful I'm doing and everyone has something to say. Bottom line is that our society lives in a fantasy world and in denial. If anyone says anything that forces them out of that fake world and face the reality of their own misery, they resent it. I don't believe it is necessarily Ben who is saying "Rain, Rain go away..." but everyone else because "All the world is waiting for the sun". This is my opinion and my analysis and if you disagree that's fine. I believe the melody is calm and relaxing but the words are really sad. I know because it's lonely being sad and ironically it is when you need people the most but no one wants to listen to you.

This song actually brings back rather painful memories for me. The man I was in love with was moving clear to the other end of the state, and it didn't really hit me until he asked me to listen to this song. (I ended up moving to his town a year later and now we see each other every day, for those of you who care lol)

I think some of it has to do with being on the road. In the sense that there are times when you just want to go home and live a normal life. I think that its about the struggle with fame and coping with the change in lifestyle.

I think it's metaphorical and has little to do with a relationship between two people.

I love this song to death. I love the irony of this being my boyfriend's and my song way back in the day when we first slowdanced together...the irony? We broke up because he was doubting if he loved me.

This is a great song! Just very calm, and relaxing.
