This song is about teenage pregnancy. The opening lyrics: " Babies born on a bathroom floor, mother prays it would never cry. What's wrong - you got your prom dress on when they ask you say it isn't mine," shows that it is singing through the eyes of the parents finding out about it. (thanks, Tom - London, England)
Nickelback took some heat for the intro to this song, which sounds very similar to the Metallica riff from "The Unnamed Feeling," which was released a few months earlier. (thanks, JT - Tullahoma, TN)

The actual meaning of the song is in Guitar world Chad Kroeger of Nickleback's words were just this "first, lets clarify something; that song's not about killing babies; its about a specific incident when a girl gave birth in a bathroom during her prom, dumped the baby in a garbage can and went back to dancing like nothing happened. This is not a debate about at what point a cell has a soul. That baby was alive; she could've given it up for adoption. But due to the overwhelming embarrassment she felt, she chose homicide."...it continues to tell how he feels about pro choice or life.

I believe this song also refers to a teen girl who had had her baby on the bathroom during her prom and threw the baby in the garbage hoping it would never take a breath and no one would ever find out. It is a tragic story but sadly it happens... I'm sure the girl was not prepared in any way to be amother but the song also shows a truth that these things happen and you dont need to throw your life away
