Faaip De Oiad by Tool

Album: LateralusReleased: 2001
  • "Faaip De Oiad" means "Voice of God" in the Enochian language. The Enochian language was invented by Edward Kelley in the 16th Century. Kelley said this language had been revealed to him by angels.
  • The Art Bell Show, a Nevada-based radio show that purported to discuss conspiracy theories and the paranormal, was the venue for a strange occurrence on September 11, 1997. During an Area 51-themed call-in program, a hysterical man claiming to be a former Area 51 worker called in to warn Bell's listening audience that he knew of a series of impending disasters. This is the source of the monologue on this track. Before the man was finished speaking, the Art Bell show mysteriously left the airwaves for about 30 minutes. Several weeks later, the man called back apologizing for the (apparent) hoax, but the mysterious and somewhat coincidental outage has never been adequately explained. The combination of static, syncopal drumming, and hysterical rantings make for a great song. Of course, both the content (hysterical man ranting about Area 51) and the name (based on the Enochian language) are hoaxes. Ignorance breeds fear breeds conspiracy theories about aliens and angelic languages. Creepy yes. Entertaining yes. Aliens, angels, etc. ...products of vivid imaginations.Jaime - San Antonio, Tx
Listen to this when its dark and ur the only one in an empty house scary as hellApollo - Waltham, Ma
you don't find it funny that a majority of tool fans listen to this album to put them to sleep and just when they reach rem state we are awakened by a creepy freaked out dude, who leaves us feeling the same way???

I just recently purchased all the tools albums after a few friends got me heavy into them and I'll usually let a cd play throughout the night on repeat. So I wake up at about 3:00AM to Faip de Oiad, right at the beggining of the song, listen to the frantic babbeling of this guy, get freaked out as hell. This happened three times in a row, almost exeactly the same time and always at the begining of this song. I don't know but it was very strange.Andrew - Syracuse, Ny
The guy actually called back and confirmed it was a hoax. He has called the program numerous times as different characters.

As far as the 9/11 coincidence... it's just that, a coincidence.

OK EVERYONE!!!! zThink about area 51... im was born and raised in roswell and i still live in roswell!... on sept 11,1997 when the hysterical man warned about the series of impending disasters, he was right... what happened on 9-11-01??? a series of impending disasters!!! 3 of them to be exact! think about it...the paranormal is real.. dont think im some freak though, cuz im as normal as everyone else..just a regular person...everyone has their own beleifs and every beleif/religion is part of it. CONVERT THIS SONG TO YOUR OWN MEANING!Amber - Roswell, Nm
Scary. Naturally, like everyone else, I just found this song on the CD. I listened to it a few times, and quite frankly, it is paranormal/extraterrestial material. It got a love/hate relationship with it. I don't want to go to sleep tonight....Liam - Blairstown, Nj

I've never noticed this in the song before just now! All of a sudden I was hearing something creepy, something that I'd heard before. It gave me chills. Then I recognized it as the audio I'd heard before from the Art Bell Show. Though some people feel it was a hoax, think of it this way: what would be the need for the radio station to go off the air for 30 minutes if it were a hoax? If this whole story was ridiculous and fake, WHY did the station shut down temporarily? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense that the government would bother to censor this caller if the whole thing was just ridiculous ranting from a prankster. I'm sure many people think this story is bogus, but there is an absolute TON of information out there (on the internet, etc) that would seem to provide credibility to these kinds of stories.Anonymous - Lots Of Places, Ca
Very creepy. Trent had the same problem I had. I hadn't listened to the whole Cd before I fell asleep the first night i got it. And I woke up to that staticy sound right before the guy begins talking. I was a tad freaked out. I was in a freaky state and had to switch over to another cd to kind of cool me down.Ian - Larksville, Pa
What is interesting about this song is that although the caller later said the whole thing was a joke, it sounds as though there is real horror and worry in his voice. It is possible that he is just a very good actor but the fact that the radio all of a sudden cut out and the strange subject matter it seems that it may not be a hoax.Zach - Ashland, Ma
Like Lost Keys, this track inspired me to make a mini movie about Area 51. Awesome track!Ben - Lincoln, England

everyone seems to expeirence this song while going to bed at night and creeps them out. I'm also one of those people.Eric - Boston, Ma
I have to agree that this song is REALLY creepy. Oddly enough, I'm a fan of the radio show that the whole thing happened on. I've also loved this song since this album came out. I only JUST found out, though, that the stuff from this song came from the radio show, Coast-To-Coast AM.

This song used to freak me out, though, when I'd be playing a CD with it on it at night as I tried to go to sleep. There's just something so creepy about it.

This is a scary song, especially right when it cuts off and everything is silent after a minute or so of loud static, someone hyper-fentilating/talking, and the drums.Dane - Honolulu, Hi
