  • This samples "Summer Madness" by Kool & The Gang. The last words in the lyrics of the song also were "summer madness." >>
    Suggestion credit:
Jimoh - The Bronx NY, NY
  • Released in the summer of 1991, the lyrics are about the joy of summer as lived by Will Smith (The Fresh Prince), and DJ Jazzy Jeff around Philadelphia.
  • This won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance By a Duo or Group. There was some drama surrounding the category that year because Public Enemy, who were also nominated, boycotted the show because the rap awards were not televised, saying it disrespected "inner-city contributions to the music industry." Public Enemy was nominated the two previous years as well and also lost.
  • This returned to the UK Top 40 in the summer of 2013, thanks to an iTunes 59p promotion.

"This music is DIFFERENT in the most fast description" (Rap Music, sufrfrace said in the MTV's 10th anniversary RAP tribute). So, versions and samples and mixes or whatever are different too. the options are there and each one has their own choice and taste. I would say Summertime by DJ Jazzy and Fresh Prince is cool, frech, different and a song deceivine heat and maybe some hhot breeze .Jorges - Oaxaca, Mexico
Why people tend to compare, it's just a perfect match. Great instrument play, great lyrics about happy times in one's city.Yos - Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
I'm a fan of both versions, although I have to say that K&TG's version is much much more enjoyable because it's longer, deeper and more classy. I could never get sick of listening to it.Rain - Clinton, Md
Kool & the Gang's version is 'jazzier' and much deeper...a better song, the fact that it isn't played as much says less about the taste of now, versus the quality of the song...Kevin - Omaha, Ne
I like that song. He's much more talented than th average rapper. His version of Summer time is played more than the original, and I've been around long enough to be a judge of both.William - New Orleans, La
