  • Wendell Mobley and Neil Thrasher wrote the song. The pair have collaborated on many other hit songs, including Rascal Flatts' "I Melt " and "Banjo" and Jason Aldean's "Tattoos On This Town."
  • All he could think about was I'm too young for this
    Got my whole life ahead
Hell I'm just a kid myself
    How'm I gonna raise one

The song starts off with the girl telling her boyfriend she's pregnant. Mobley told The Tennessean it was something that happened to him just after high school. His girlfriend gave birth to a little girl, who died within eight or nine months. "Fast forward 18 years in Nashville, sitting at a red light," he continued. "It's her birthday, and that idea comes to me. She would have been 18, you know? I just started thinking about this idea, and we didn't get anything done because the whole time I am thinking about this idea."

The next day, Mobley had a session booked with Neil Thrasher, and with the idea still in his mind, they started the song. At the time Thrasher was unaware of Mobley's story, so the inspiration was Neil's two little girls; one who'd just started school, and the other a baby with "blue eyes and bouncy curls."

A year later, Thrasher found out about Mobley's story and they returned to his idea again.
  • The song spent seven consecutive weeks at #1 on the Country chart until it was replaced by Alan Jackson's "Remember When."
  • Shaun Silva directed the video, which visually tells the song's story. Actress Amber Heard plays the grown daughter in the clip. She is known to many for her marriage and divorce from Johnny Depp and her accusations of his abusive behavior.
