Songfacts®:

  • John Lennon wrote the lyrics to this song, which is about going home to his girlfriend.
  • A Hard Day's Night was the first Beatles album made up of all original Lennon/McCartney songs. The title came from something Ringo said during a radio interview. The UK version of the album featured a montage of head shots of the band members; the US version had one shot of each, showing only eyes and hair. It hit #1 in both the UK and the US. >>

  • Jon from Rochester, Ny, NyI saw the movie Hard Day's Night when I was about 7 or 8-loved the music and my parents bought me the album-This was my favorite song on the LP-I loved the chord progressions and melody, but especially the vocal harmonies on the chorus-very modern and progressive at the time because it took the standard 1-4-5 chord progressions and adds something truly new. It remains one of my faves to this day.
  • Karma from New York City, NyI love how this is so "dirty" without being so obvious (I just love the line "gonna love her 'til the cows come home". I find that intriguing.)
  • John from New York, NyI think this is one of John's best vocal performances.
  • Confidential from Confidential, NyThis song seems different from other beatles songs because it is less known and less heard
  • Forrest from Rochester, MnThis song is awful except for the line "I've got no time for trivialities"
