Songfacts®:

  • This song was written by Mort Shuman and was originally recorded by The Drifters in 1961. The Searchers' version, which was produced by Tony Hatch, climbed to the top of the UK charts following an appearance on the Merseybeat edition of the TV show Thank Your Lucky Stars.
  • The songwriter Mort Shuman commented on the Searchers cover in 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh: "Well, they got the words wrong - it's 'Your tasty kiss,' not 'Your fair sweet kiss' - but I thought it was fine. They had a different sound to the Drifters but it wasn't necessarily inferior. It was so infectious and that is all you wanted from those singles."
  • This song was later recorded by Tina Charles and CJ Lewis, who both also had UK hits with it.
  • This was featured in the 1988 film Buster. >>

  • Eric from ValenciaName me one New Zealandesque rock'n'roll band known beyond New Zealandesaque shores and I'll eat my knees.
  • Teresa from Mechelen, BelgiumI love The Searchers version of this song, I have a cd with all their hits and it starts with this song; its very TOP. It's written by Mort Shuman and Doc Pomus who wrote many beautiful songs like "Save the last dance for me".
  • Noel from Christchurch, New ZealandThe Searchers version was the best as was a lot of British groups at that time . Another song buy the Searchers was Twist & Shout They were no. 2 Beatles no. 1 With their version. Remember The USA market was always a hard market to crack as they would only let certain groups in at any one time to keep rock & roll theres1 but when all said and done ROCK AND ROLL was world wide right from 1956, even down in Australia & New Zealand Noel Martin NZ.
