Hello Hello

Album: Talk Show (1997)

Songfacts®:

  • "Hello Hello" was written by Dean DeLeo, Eric Kretz and Dave Coutts. Like many STP songs, the lyric is rather abstract, telling the story of a complicated woman, a "broken beauty wearing super glue."
  • With Stone Temple Pilots lead singer Scott Weiland dealing with drug issues, the rest of the band - Dean DeLeo (guitar), Robert DeLeo (bass), and Eric Kretz (drums) - hooked up with former Ten Inch Men vocalist Dave Coutts to form Talk Show. They released their self-titled debut album in 1997 with the lead single "Hello Hello."

At the time, the band insisted it wasn't a side project and hinted that STP might be finished - they were weary from dealing with Weiland's addictions. But the album got little attention and Weiland got better, so Talk Show was disbanded and STP returned in 1999 with their album No. 4.
  • Talk Show was on Atlantic Records, just like Stone Temple Pilots, so they had a budget for the music video for "Hello Hello." Directed by Josh Taft, it shows the band on a giant turntable and mixes in some trippy shots of a chimpanzee and giant dolls.
