Here's To The Night

This song makes me cry because it reminds me of this guy that I was really in love with, but he basically used me. In the back of my mind I knew it wouldn't end well, but I went with it because sometimes love makes you blind to the most obvious things. "Put your name on the line, along with place and time" really hits home to me because when it comes down to it, I was just another girl to him, but he was the one that got away.

I love this song. I'd like to try and interpret it so that the singer doesn't seem like a complete jerk. I think this song can be interpreted as the last night just spending time with someone. Fairly often people will push those they love away and not spend a night hanging out with them. Gone for good again could also be interpreted as you graduating from one milestone such as going into high school and then from high school to college. And this song is the final night that this guy and girl can spend together. This song doesn't have to be interpreted as negatively as Bryan has interpreted it, even though I think he has a very good interpretation that is probably accurate to what Max was thinking when he wrote the lyrics, but music is transitional and applicable to all facets of our lives and no one song has only one interpretation, so this is mine.

This song is about a one night stand..

It's about a girl, at some kind of graduation party or going away party OR just spending time with a guy she's been talking to or has talked to in the past, who really likes this guy, but the guy just wants to get laid. The first part of the song is the guy's point of view. The guy's trying to convince her to have sex and at first she keeps saying no because she likes him and doesn't want to be easy, but he pushes it on her: "So denied.. so I lied.. are you the now are never kind?" This means that at first she's denied him because he's done this in the past.. Later in the song it tells you how he lied by saying: "I'm gonna be gone for good again." Meaning that he's done this before, he's said that he's gonna be gone forever just to get her to have sex with him, and somehow he's ended up back home to her and is trying to have another one night stand with her and he's saying that he's going to be "gone for good again" because he's leaving again and saying he's gonna be gone forever again. Realizing that he's winning her over, he mysteriously asks her, "are you the now or never kind?" He keeps working his game and says that "in a day, and a day love, I'm gonna be gone for good again." Saying that this is their final chance to make something happen again because this is his last day before he leaves or goes away permanently. Then as he's starting to convince her to have sex with him again, he hints that it's just gonna be another one time thing or one night stand by saying: "Are you willing to be had? Are you cool with just tonight?"..... "Here's a toast to all those who hear me all too well" is his toast to all the guys who have been where he's been and have just wanted to have a one night stand with no strings attached.

The chorus: "Here's to the nights we've felt alive. Here's to the tears you knew you'd cry. Here's to goodbye tomorrow's gonna come too soon," Is the guy toasting to the nights like the night they just had, and had before, where they had sex and felt so alive. And then he's toasting to the girl because he let her know it was gonna be a one night stand just like the last time and she still couldn't resist because she likes him too much to turn him down, and she's still gonna be upset about it and shed the tears she knew she'd cry, just like the last time they had a one night stand. Then he toasts: "here's to goodbye tomorrow's gonna come too soon" because earlier he told her "in a day, and a day love I'm gonna be gone for good again." Meaning that tomorrow he's leaving for good, like he's once told her before.

He then says: "Put your name on the line.. along with place and time," he's telling her that she can put her name/self respect/dignity on the line because of the little amount of time they have together so she shouldn't worry about where they are at and worry about the people who are there losing respect for her because supposedly this is the last time they will ever see each other again. Then he says to be more convincing that he actually likes her and that he doesn't just want to get some: "Wanna stay, not to go, I wanna ditch the logical" meaning that he doesn't want to go, but he has to, and by saying he wants to "ditch the logical," he tries to convince her that he cares about her and that he actually likes her and that he doesn't want to leave her or "ditch" her for the "logical" reason why he's leaving, which could be for college or for the military... its really for the listener to decide.. And again, "Here's a toast to all those who hear me all too well" is his toast to all the guys who have been where he's been and have just wanted to have a one night stand with no strings attached.

Corus is the same meaning as I said before...

The next verse is the girl talking to the guy after the one night stand has taken place. By "All my time is frozen motion," the girl means that she feels so strongly about this guy and after just having sex with him that she feels like she's lost or "frozen" in the moments she's been spending with him making love with him. By "Can't I stay an hour or two or more? Don't let me let you go..," the girl is begging for him to stay and make this more than a one night stand asking if she could stay with him longer, and begging him that if he really cares like he's convinced her that he does, that he shouldn't let her let him go away again.

Basically this song is about a one night stand, and a guy convincing a girl who really likes him to have sex with him again because he's going away to college or the military or somewhere again. He's convinced her to have a one night stand before and has said the same stuff to her this time around, like he's "gonna be gone for good," and for some reason he's come back home or to wherever she is, and he wants to have sex with her again before he leaves again....

This song its so sad. its about some bastard girl or guy at a party, proabbly intoxicated, when youre not even that buzzed and they wanna get laid but ask you "Are you willing to be had?
Are you cool with just tonight?"
when really you have a thign for the person and you go along with it anyways because you want to be a part of them so badly "Here's to the tears you knew you'd cry Here's to goodbye tomorrow's gunna come too soon". it makes me cry because it hits me in the face. its an amazing song though.

I HATE this song. It brings back so many horrible high school memories...

but it does sound like some graduation song! kinda like Vitamin C's Graduation (Friends Forever) to me
