Songfacts®:

  • In Anthony Kiedis' autobiography Scar Tissue, he says that he has always hated this song. The song came about from producer Rick Rubin, who wanted him to write a fun song about girls, cars and frivolous stuff. Kiedis didn't like the idea at the time, and never has, but he wrote the song anyway.
  • Chevrolet did a series of print ads which featured excerpts from songs that mentioned Chevrolet in some form. They approached Anthony Kiedis about using the part of first verse where Kiedis sings "My Chevrolet rollin' to another play day. This is the sound I listen for my love." Kiedis, however would not let the lyrics appear in the ad, because he did not believe in the lyrics. >>

  • Derek from Auburn, CaI think he didn't like the meaning of the song not the actual song itself.
  • Jeff from Austin, TxI thought it was a pretty good song. Surprised to see that Kiedis didn't like it. He must have thought it didn't sound black enough.
