Songfacts®:

  • Hackett originally wrote this instrumental piece for Wind & Wuthering, which turned out to be his last album with Genesis. When this, along with most of his other contributions were left off the album, Hackett realized he no longer fit into the erstwhile progressive/folk rock group's increasingly mainstream pop outlook, and left to launch a solo career. This became the title track for Hackett's first post-Genesis solo record.
  • In 1986, as a member of the one-off supergroup GTR, Hackett reworked this song under the title "Hackett To Bits." >>
